Project Disha – Health & Hygiene

Mrs. Shoba a government girls college lecturer shared one of the most important aspect of human life i.e. food and nutrition. During the interaction with the village women she said food nutrition is a key element in maintaining our overall physical well being. We must always pay attention to the foods that we eat because they will eventually impact our health, for better or for worst.
Health and quality of life are one and same principles. Healthy habits need to be straightened out in order to have a decent quality of life where you can have vivid imagination to fuel your thoughts and actions in the right manner. One should concentrate on good health habits as people a slaves to habits; therefore, we must change bad habits for good habits, but one at a time or else we will not accomplish anything. Simultaneously, child care development is also very essential. Right from the new born to the grownups sufficient medical care should be provided.

On the other hand a group of women from an health related NGO called Chetana were of the opinion that more attention should be paid on health and hygiene practices by women and adolescents girls during the menstrual period. The villagers were also happy to get free medical health check up from Dr. Rama Krishna, a retired surgeon from Gandhi Hospital. Dr. Madhavi a Gynecologist by profession also discussed about the general health issues of women and gave them few generic tips on diet composition. She also addressed the issues of anemic women. Although, the women want to get empowered they are mislead and exploited by upper class people time and again. Their freedom of speech is snatched off from them leaving them speechless and usher the fear in them about fellow beings around in the society. The villagers also had the opportunity to take the services of the eye specialist. About 300 villagers got free eye check up, of which 28 people had chronic problems which required Cataract operation. In phase -1, about 10 people have already undergone the operation and the rest 10 would be covered in next phase with regular follow ups. Also, 25 villagers were recommended to use spectacles which will be provided by the foundation.
