Project Disha – Importance of water
On the initiation of the awareness programme Dr. D. Narsimha Reddy, Director of Chetana Society explained the importance of water. During the interaction he shared that water is a very imperative resource which has to be conserved carefully without any waste age. Since Nalgonda is drought prone district, usage of water needs more planning. Hence, the intention of the interaction was to conscious the villagers about the importance of natural resources available to us around us and their effective usage. This session mostly attracted the women as they are mostly linked to water usage and supply activities though it is cooking food or cleaning vessels.
Therefore, it was key to educate them on this blazing issue. Dr. Reddy also focused on ground water and surface water and their role in our lives. During the practical session he introduced the group on drinking water awareness, fluoride contamination and its effects. He pulled the interest of the villagers by showing them how the quality of drinking water can be tested using simple equipment’s. The interaction was ended by showing the villagers various local low cost natural materials available at their farms like charcoal, coconut shell etc which can also be means of testing water. On the other hand, to keep the group enthusiastic games were conducted for the school going children of the village.
