Project Disha – Vocational Training
Mr. Naveen, Project Manager , Yashoda Charitable Trust welcomed all the village youth on this important topic to be discussed. Vocational training prepares learners for jobs that are based in manual or practical activities, traditionally non-academic and related to a specific trade, occupation existing in that particular area. It covers a wide range of subject areas and tends to be more hands on than academic qualifications might be. Our world is changing fast, and we all need more skills than ever before. The future jobs will require a higher level of skills and better qualifications. Identifying and developing need-based relevant vocational programs and training the educated youth in various skills that would enhance opportunities for gainful employment was the main motto of the day.
The session was not only about the sustainable livelihoods but also alternate livelihood options which can keep the youth employed throughout the year with substantial income every month. At the end of the session about 38 youth were identified who shall be provided skill training for various jobs.
During the interaction few major livelihood options were carved from this district such as beedi making, weaving, toddy tapping etc. The villagers also expressed huge interest in carrying out other livelihoods options like vegetable farming, milk vending and other dairy development practices. The speaker also narrated milk vending procedures and techniques along with fodder preparation techniques with available resources and tips on preliminary first aid for cattle. But all these facilities could be accessed by the villagers only after they formed into men self help group to avail advantages.
